Don't Let Yourself Go
Have you read a book or participated in a physical activitylately? I had no idea how soft I was getting mentally andphysically. Stop and look at yourself. You see what I'm talkingabout but do not want to believe what you see. I am right onpoint concerning this matter for most of us. Think about it andbe honest with yourself. I want you to stop here and take aminute to assess you mental and physical state on a scale of 1 to10. Time's up, anything less than an honest 5 and you need tomake a mental note to yourself as I have done. My mental note wassimply to remind myself as I get older do not stop challengingthe mind and keep the body physically active. For those of youwho are physically and mentally fit, you may opt out at thispoint or possibly learn something, even feel free to move on toanother article or just stick around. What I mean by soft is the lack of mental or physical endurance Iused to have is just not there. I'm not talking about running a5K race or studying for your CPA exam, just an improvement in thefrequency of engagement in a mentally and physically challengingactivity. This will require a few basic preparation steps, because you are the only one that can change your currentbehavior that allowed the softness to prevail. You have already started by simply getting this far in thearticle; next step is to break down your day and select times forsimple mental and physical activity. I started on the mental partfirst by creating a brainstormed list of subject matter I wantedto read about or research. The brainstorm list for mentalactivity was all over the place and included improving myInternet business skills, professional education, learn a newlanguage, mystery and science fiction books, and self-improvementwebsites and on-line forums. My commitment was to read for atleast 15 minutes each day on one of the chosen items on my list.I found at the beginning I read books of interest such as Birdsof Prey by Wilbur Smith and Sahara by Clive Cussler. After awhile, 15 minutes was nothing, and I actually found my vocabularywas growing. Another part of the reading effort was to write downwords I did not understand or know the meaning of. I kept thesein a notebook that I regularly refer to and make myself find outthe definition. Usually I have the word and book it was fromreferenced--not always for some people; this may be a littlemuch. Here is my latest word: Turgid.I have been in the mental activity groove regularly for 5 monthsnow and can definitely tell a difference in my mental sharpnessand attention span, not to mention I am actually learning newwords and using them.Onto physical activity...this will be up to you to get out of thechair, off the couch and computer. Get outside and do somethingbesides trim and mow the lawn. You know your physicallimitations, and I do not want to attempt to promote somethingbeyond your capabilities. Just some level of physical activityengagement. There are chair aerobics, go for a walk, ride a bike,go visit a neighbor, play basketball with the kids or even jointhe local health club. Again, brainstorm and create a list ofphysical activities you can perform, start slow, check with yourdoctor and begin. I started last week by committing to a localhealth club three times a week to do treadmill and machineresistance work. One week in and I'm on my third trip to thegym. Guess what, I'm actually looking forward to going; soon youwill also.Kent Jacobson, a.k.a. Introduction To Body Detox
Detox, or detoxification is the process of neutralizing oreliminating toxins from the body. Toxins are chemicals that we take into our bodies such as oralcontraceptives, perfume and after shave, cigarette smoke andalcohol, food additives, pesticides, cleaning agents andMercury. Our bodies naturally detoxify these chemicals andexcrete them via our stools or urine. So why the need to aid detoxification? Experts believe that the sheer amount of toxins that we takeinto our bodies every day via water food and the environmentcan accumulate. The build up of toxins can be so great that ourbodies cannot detoxify efficiently which can lead to nutritionaldeficiencies, an inefficient metabolism and hormonal imbalances.Symptoms can be lethargy, dull skin, allergies and occasionallypain. Over time, toxic build up is believed to lead to disease. A detox diet, using herbs and supplements or a special diet, isbelieved to help strengthen the organs used for detoxificationand promote the excretion of stored toxins through the skin, liver, lungs, kidneys, intestines and lymphatic system. Detox diets are thought to prevent chronic diseases such ascancer and heart disease. People using detox diets report thatit relieves symptoms such as lethargy and fatigue, joint painand headaches, pmt and irritability, constipation and gas andalso improves their skin. Toxicity symptoms can be similar to other illnesses so beforeyou embark on a detox diet it is best to discuss your symptomswith your health care provider. Whilst you are on a detox diet, it is quite normal for yoursymptoms to get worse for a short period, for instance you mayexperience more headaches and other pains and drier or oilierskin, and this is due to the toxins all passing through yourbody in large quantities. Generally these symptoms pass withina few days.About The Author: Lucy Bartlett is a proud contributing author.Find more articles at http://consumerresourcesportal.info/ Formore info visit http://detox-city.info/ orhttp://detox-city.info/detox-diets.html

Trash Those "Miracle" Dieting And Weightloss Products And Programs!
Are you the type of person who checks out those five-minuteinfomercials on the telly featuring a "miracle" soap and abefore and after girl? Do you also immediately dial the numberson the screen to order the featured product (and supposedlyavail of a mega discount)? You've probably tried every dietingand weightloss magic pills, potions, diets, creams, exercisegadgets, and what-nots that all yielded absolutely nada effect. The problem areas (read: bulging belly, flabby arms, and doublechin) are still very much out for the world to see. You long todon sexy and figure-hugging tops and jeans, and two-pieceswimsuits in the summer, but have to opt for hideouslong-sleeved tops and baggy denims that make you look extremelylousy. Well, the first thing you have to keep in mind is thatdieting and weightloss products and programs that promiseinstant results are hundred percent duds. For years, dieting and weightloss experts tried to convincepeople with weight issues to concentrate on healthy lifestyleand forget "miracle" products and programs. While there arenutritionists and diet gurus who encourage weight-loss programslike South Beach diet and Atkin's diet, some experts adviceclients to subscribe to natural and risk-free alternatives.Specific diet plans are fast gaining a huge following, but thisisn't to say they're effective. Low-carbohydrate Atkins diet, for example, is blamed for the poor mental performance andweaker immune system of its followers. Atkins enthusiastsbelieve low carb daily intake, which is estimated at 20 gramsor less, is the key to slim or whistle-bait figure. Thedownside is that there are less carb stored in the liver thateventually translates to that distinct "lazy" feel. A diet withinsufficient carb also restricts the production of lymphocyte, which helps the body fight infections. Even the seeminglyperfect and utterly promising diet programs are not fool-proof.In the end, it's still best to stick to a slowly-but-surelyhealthy lifestyle that cannot only erase bulges (thoughdefinitely not in a blink of an eye) but also improve health ingeneral. People who have weight problems should remember that not alldiets are to be avoided. Though they have to stay away fromcrash diets and the like, they have to keep in mind healthydieting and weightloss teach them the value of discipline andchoice of the right kind of food. Crash dieting often placesfood in a bad light, something to be ingested in minimum. Butin fact, food (even for the overweight and obese) is an ally.Just make sure to eat a balanced diet coupled with regularexercise. This advice may sound archaic but nothing can be moretrue than this reality. Even if dieting and weightloss productsand programs continue to increase and become much moremodernized, nothing beats the benefits one can get fromfollowing a healthy lifestyle.About The Author: For more valuable information on Dieting andWeightloss, please visit http://www.womandiet.comPlease use the HTML version of this article at:http://www.isnare.com/html.php?aid=72764
